Darvin L. Harris, 19, of Chicago is being held on $40,000 bond after allegedly committing the latest armed street robbery in the village last Tuesday. Harris reportedly followed an Oak Park woman off a Blue Line train around 2 a.m., Oct. 14, displayed a handgun, demanded money and threatened to shoot her. The woman turned over her wallet and Harris fled after pushing the woman to the ground.
The woman was able to call police, who spotted Harris on the Blue Line platform waiting for a train back to Chicago. After the woman identified Harris, the arresting officer observed a toy plastic gun in a waste can on the train platform, and the woman's wallet was found on the walkway of the train station.
The previous night, Oct. 13, an Oak Park man delivering pizzas was confronted by three or four men who took $60, his driver's license and four pizzas.
The afternoon of Oct. 19, a woman in her late teens ran up to an Oak Park woman on the 400 block of Austin Blvd. and snatched her purse. It was later recovered, less $50 in cash.
Burglary
A residence on the 100 block of North Marion St. was burglarized during the day, Oct. 16, by a thief who broke a glass door pane. An X-Box system, computer tower and $400 in cash were stolen.
Raymond L. Bartemio, 70, of Chicago, was arrested, the afternoon of Oct. 16 on the 7000 block of North Ave., after he was identified as the person who entered a garage and stole a bike on the 1200 block of Forest Ave.
The side door of a garage on the 700 block of South Taylor Ave. was forced open overnight, Oct. 14. Two cars were ransacked and a stereo faceplate and $7.50 stolen.
Burglars entered a garage on the 900 block of Belleforte Ave. overnight, Oct. 13, apparently through an unlocked window. A compound mitre saw, valued at $350, was stolen.
Six cars were burglarized last week in Oak Park and another four in River Forest. The night of Oct. 18, the window of a car parked in the Ridgeland Common lot on the 400 block of Lake St. was smashed and $2,265 in personal items stolen, including a purse, wallet and laptop computer.
Battery
Anton T. Brown, 29, of Chicago, allegedly struck a Bolingbrook man in the eye with a collapsible club while on the 700 block of South Austin Blvd., the night of Oct. 13. Brown then reportedly punched the man in the head and body. He was charged with two counts of aggravated battery, driving on a revoked license, having no insurance and unlawful use of a weapon.
Darryl A. Reynolds, 45, of Chicago, was in a rear yard on the 600 block of South Humphrey Ave., the evening of Oct. 13, when he was confronted by the property owner. When the man asked Reynolds several times to leave, Reynolds reportedly responded by pushing the man. Besides battery, Reynolds was charged with criminal trespass to property.
The afternoon of Oct. 14, an Oak Park juvenile was approached on the 400 block of South Blvd. by two boys who asked to use his cellphone. When the boy refused them, one asked again, then punched him in the face before running off.
Outside warrant
Oak Park police arrested six people on outside arrest warrants and River Forest police arrested one last week.
Freddie Rivera, 53, of Chicago, was stopped for an alleged traffic violation on the 200 block of North Ridgeland Ave., the morning of Oct. 16. He was arrested on a Cook County Sheriff's warrant for manufacture of a controlled substance. Later that afternoon a Chicago boy caught urinating on the CTA elevated platform on the 1100 block of South Blvd., the afternoon of Oct. 16, was arrested on a Chicago warrant for aiding and abetting and possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
Theft
Juan C. Reyes, 17, of Berwyn was observed by police in a mini-van with a cracked windshield on the 800 block of South Oak Park Ave., the night of Oct. 18, along with juveniles from Berwyn and Chicago. The van had recently been reported stolen in Berwyn. Reyes was arrested and held for a bond hearing, the two juveniles charged and released.
The afternoon of Oct. 13, a woman described as having "bad, rotting teeth" asked a shopper in the Aldi food store, 25 Lake St. to allow her to use $10 from her LINK card in exchange for $10 cash. However, when the two women were bagging groceries, the woman with bad teeth lifted $70 from the other woman's purse.
An unlocked 2006 F-150 pickup truck with the keys inside was stolen from the 1200 block of North Humphrey Ave., the morning of Oct. 15. The $17,000 truck contained assorted work tools and a wallet holding $100 cash.
Catalytic converters were stolen off an SUV parked on the 500 block of Highland Ave., Oct. 8-10; overnight Oct. 16 on the first and 600 blocks of Washington Blvd.; and overnight Oct. 17 on the 400 block of Washington Blvd.
Battery, etc
After Herman Love, Jr. 36, of Chicago was stopped by police on the 200 block of Washington Blvd. for a local ordinance violation, the morning of Oct. 17, he allegedly became confrontational and uncooperative. When police attempted to retrain him, he reportedly pushed an officer in the chest and attempted to elbow him.
Police, responding to a domestic disturbance call on the 1200 block of North Taylor Ave. around 3:30 a.m., Oct. 18, reportedly found Dennis Reynolds, 26, of Oak Park fighting with a woman. When a name check determined Reynolds was on the property in violation of a court order of protection, he allegedly became combative with officers, and resisted arrest.
DUI, drug possession, etc.
Thomas E. Kawasaki, 21, of Des Plaines was reportedly found passed out in the driver's seat of a car left in drive gear near Washington and Austin Boulevards the afternoon of Oct 14, passed out. Police say Kawasaki, whose foot was on the brake, was breathing laboriously. After medical treatment he was charged with DUI-drugs, drug possession, and possession of paraphernalia.
John E. Molenkamp, 22, of Wheaton allegedly attempted to take money from the Ronald McDonald House contribution box inside the McDonald's, 624 Harlem Ave. the afternoon of Oct. 13. After he was stopped nearby and searched police charged him with possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
These items were obtained from police reports filed by the Oak Park and River Forest police departments from Oct. 12 to Oct. 19. Not all incidents that occurred are listed. Anyone named in reports has only been charged with a crime and cases have not yet been adjudicated.
